Monte Carlo Rye

Same city, different spirit. We ran the Monte Carlo finish over rye instead of bourbon and the character flips completely. The orange honey now sits against pepper and dry grain rather than caramel, and the whole thing tightens up. This is for the drinker who already knows what they like and wants the series to prove itself.

Finished in Amburana rum barrels and orange honey liqueur.

Tasting notes

• Nose

  Black pepper, rye grain, orange oil and a restrained honey sweetness.

• Palate

  Dry and sharp where the bourbon was round. Spice leads, citrus follows, sweetness stays in the background.

• Finish

  Long, peppery and clean. The driest finish of the five.

• How to serve

  Neat, or in a Manhattan where the rye backbone does the work.
